We decided to visit City House after reading that Thomas Keller had recently paid a visit. I didn't know what to expect to be honest with you so I was pleasantly surprised to find some serious food and drinks that make me want to eat at City House as much as humanly possible.
I started with a refreshing Hemingway at the bar made with Prichard's Light Rum, Grapefruit Juice, Bourbon Soaked Cherries and Lime. Then we were seated in the open-concept dining space with exposed brick walls and touches of 1920 period details. Our waiter recommended sharing a few appetizers and entrees so we took his advice and began our dining journey with a potato and Montasio cheese frico and house cured lonza paired with a palette-cleansing gremolata. Our entrees included their special- a fettuccine with pasta made hours before and a pork sauce that had been simmering for the past two days. We also had a house made sausage paired with a celery root slaw.
The only problem with City House is after four dishes and three drinks each, the food was so good we were actually still hungry. So we ordered the house made belly ham pizza with mozzarella, oregano and a hint of chili oil for heat along with a peanut butter and jelly cornbread sandwich paired with buttermilk ice cream for dessert.
What makes City House so darn good? I'd say it's definitely the talented James Beard nominated chef Tandy Wilson in conjunction with some really fresh, quality ingredients. If you have the chance to visit Nashville do yourself a favor and eat here. I promise you won't be dissapointed.
